Building software is tricky business, and over time the complexities that tend to grow pose interesting challenges to teams everywhere. Every developer has written code once in his career and thought…

“Man, that piece was already barely standing, I wonder how this will work out”

Ladies and gentleman, that is hackstacking. While tricky, building software is also a sleazy business. Everyday developers all over the world compromise code… for deadlines, for sleep, because of understanding.. new bad code is introduced everyday.

hackstacking isn’t all bad, though. See, just as much good code is written, and this creates amazing innovative new products. No matter where the innovation is.. desktop, web, server.. in the past 20 years the rate of innovation in software is astonishing. Good code, bad code, as we put all the parts and pieces together.. the whole is much greater then the sum of it’s parts.

So back to the subject.. hackstacking is the <strike>act</strike> <strike>art</strike> practice of gluing software together to make the computer do what you want.. My question though, is what you want what your users want?
